Environmental concerns combined with financial incentives prompted the Vigliettas to change energy systems and eliminate fossil fuel use in their home. Their heating was converted from expensive oil to efficient geothermal, paired with a heat pump water heater. They have also invested in electric vehicles and solar panels.
Despite initial skepticism about heat pumps working in Central New York’s climate, the combination of federal tax incentives and NYSERDA and National Grid rebates made a geothermal system surprisingly affordable and comfortable. Their solar power covers the entire energy use of the house plus nearly all of the energy use of their electric vehicles.
Come check out how heat pumps and other low carbon upgrades are working for the Vigliettas!
