Recognizing the HeatSmart CNY Initiative to bring clean, sustainable heating and cooling alternatives to our community

WHEREAS, the HeatSmart CNY initiative is a non-profit, volunteer campaign in Onondaga, Oswego, Cortland, Madison and Cayuga Counties, which is helping people switch to clean heating and cooling technologies; and
WHEREAS, the HeatSmart CNY initiative has received funding and support from NYSERDA to administer a two-year campaign through the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board (CNY RPDB) and the Alliance for a Green Economy and;
WHEREAS, the campaign educates the public about clean heating and cooling technologies and seeks to jumpstart the market and drive increase capacity and interest in installing such systems; and
WHEREAS, clean heating and cooling technologies are already proven to work in Central New York including projects at Auburn City Hall, the Auburn Police and Fire Stations, and the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center; and
WHEREAS, the HeatSmart CNY initiative supports the Comprehensive Plan adopted by the City of Auburn entitled “Building a Sustainable Auburn;” and
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, from 4-7 pm, CNY RPDB will be hosting an event at Auburn Memorial City Hall so that people can learn more about HeatSmart CNY, how heat pumps work and tour the geothermal system.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Auburn hereby recognizes the HeatSmart Central New York initiative to bring clean sustainable heating and cooling alternatives to our community and supports this campaign to create a sustainable Auburn.
