Zero energy homes are just like any home—except better. They are regular grid-tied homes that are so air-tight, well insulated, and energy efficient that they produce as much renewable energy as they consume over the course of a year, leaving the occupants with a net zero energy bill, and a carbon-free home.
For existing homes, the pathway towards net zero involves air sealing and insulation improvements, converting fossil fuel heating and cooling systems to efficient electric heat pumps, and connecting to solar power. Electric vehicles further reduce fossil fuel use!
In this HeatSmart CNY workshop, we'll explore the options available for energy efficiency improvements and how to capture the renewable heat available in our environment through geothermal and air source heat pumps. Representatives from each of our installer partners will be there to answer technical questions. Participants will also learn about options for going solar, and get a chance to test drive electric vehicles!
The Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board is providing ten energy efficiency kits to be raffled at the event!
